Here are the steps to install mod_ssl in Ubuntu

Before you proceed, please ensure you have installed Apache web server on your Ubuntu system.

 

1. Verify mod_ssl

By default, when you install Apache, mod_ssl is also installed along with it. However, it is disabled. So you need to verify if it has been installed, and then enable it

To verify if it has been installed let’s see if it is present in Apache modules folder.


$ ls /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_ssl.so

 

If the file is present, you will see the same file path in the output


/usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_ssl.so

 

2. Enable mod_ssl in Ubuntu

Run the following command to enable mod_ssl in Ubuntu


$ a2enmod ssl

 

3. Restart Apache Server

Restart Apache server to apply changes.


$ sudo systemctl restart apache2.service
